Bournemouth Parkrun at Kings Park

About the Event

Bournemouth Parkrun is one of the town’s most uplifting weekend rituals, bringing together runners, joggers and walkers every Saturday morning in the green surroundings of Kings Park. Set just east of the town centre, the route offers a welcoming mix of open parkland and smooth paths that make it accessible to first timers while still rewarding for regular runners chasing a personal best. The atmosphere is friendly and inclusive, with volunteers and participants creating a strong sense of community from the moment you arrive.

The course itself is largely flat and fast, making it popular with those new to parkrun as well as experienced runners. Wide paths loop through Kings Park, with plenty of space to settle into your pace and enjoy the surroundings. In winter the park feels crisp and energising, while in spring and summer the greenery and early morning light add to the enjoyment. The route is clearly marshalled throughout, so even first time visitors feel confident and supported.

Why We Love Bournemouth Parkrun

What makes Bournemouth Parkrun particularly special is its community feel. It attracts a broad mix of ages and abilities, from seasoned runners to people taking their first steps into regular exercise. Walking is actively encouraged, and many people come as much for the social connection as for the run itself. The encouragement from volunteers and fellow participants creates a positive energy that carries you through to the finish line.

For locals and visitors alike, Bournemouth Parkrun offers far more than a 5k run. It is a chance to start the weekend with fresh air, movement and a sense of belonging, all within one of the town’s most loved green spaces. Whether you run, jog, walk or volunteer, it remains one of the most positive and accessible ways to experience Bournemouth’s active community.

How to Get There

Getting to Bournemouth Parkrun by public transport is straightforward. Regular bus services including the 1a, 1b and 1c run every twenty minutes on Saturday mornings between Bournemouth and Christchurch along Christchurch Road. Simply get off at Gloucester Road, then walk along Gloucester Road for around a quarter of a mile. Kings Park Athletic Stadium will be directly in front of you. A map is available to help guide you on arrival.

If you are travelling by train, Pokesdown railway station is approximately a half mile walk from the park. From the station, walk along Christchurch Road towards Bournemouth. After around a quarter of a mile, turn right into Gloucester Road and continue as above until you reach the athletics stadium.

For those arriving on foot, Kings Park is easily accessed from the main A35 Christchurch Road, with several pedestrian routes leading directly into the park. The athletics stadium is located next to AFC Bournemouth’s football stadium, making it easy to find.

If you are travelling by car, Kings Park and the football stadium are well signposted from the A338 Wessex Way, with vehicle access also available via Ashley Road. Parking is free on the surrounding park roads. Please note that there is a charge for parking in the main football stadium pay and display car park, with prices starting from fifty pence for one hour and one pound for two hours. Visitors are asked not to park in the athletics stadium car park or the lorry park.

How to Get Involved

Bournemouth Parkrun takes place every Saturday morning at 9am and is completely free to take part. To get involved, all you need to do is register once on the Parkrun website (completely free), print your barcode, and rock up any Saturday morning ready to run, jog or walk the 5k course.
