A Southbourne church is encouraging residents to support their local food bank this autumn by bringing food donations to its Harvest Festival service.
St Christopher’s Church in Southbourne is inviting gifts of packets and tins for Southbourne Food Bank, with donations also intended to help people within the wider local community.
The collection forms part of the church’s Harvest Festival and Parade Service, taking place on Sunday 11 October 2026 from 10am to 11.30am.

Harvest traditionally provides an opportunity for churches and communities to collect food for people who may need additional support, and this year St Christopher’s is directing its donations towards Southbourne Food Bank.
The church has specifically asked for packets and tins, providing residents with a simple way to contribute practical items that can be redistributed locally.
Anyone attending the Harvest service can bring suitable donations with them on the morning.
The service begins at 10am and will combine the church’s Harvest Festival with its Parade Service.
A puppet performance is also planned as part of the morning, with this year’s theme exploring the question: “How does God guide us?”
The service will include a reading from Psalm 32, while younger visitors will also be catered for through the church’s regular children’s provision.
A creche will be available at the back of the church for parents with pre-school-aged children, with baby facilities, toys and colouring sheets provided.
School-age children will be able to attend age-appropriate groups during the service.
Sunday Club is available for children from Reception to Year 5, while the church’s SCY group is aimed at those in Year 6 and above.
Refreshments will be served following the service.
For anyone planning to attend, bringing a packet or tin offers an easy way to add something practical to the Harvest celebrations.
Food banks continue to rely heavily on community donations, and collections such as this allow local organisations, churches and residents to work together to support households closer to home.
The Southbourne Harvest Festival takes place at St Christopher’s Church on Sunday 11 October from 10am to 11.30am, with food donations welcomed for Southbourne Food Bank.
